Project activities

In its 2nd year, the project aimed at researching activities and new forms of blended learning in Euro-cultural adult education, to systematize them and to communicate them in Europe. In order to achieve this a GRUNDVIG- MEDIA CONTEST (Comenius-euromedia contest) was conducted in all participating countries in order to find qualitatively good multimedia products and further education offers for blended learning in Euro-cultural adult education. The best practices and outstanding examples were presented at conferences in all participating countries and received a price. They were also presented and communicated for practical education.

The interest in all participating countries focussed on finding out and communicating best educational offers on education concerning Euro-cultural education by means of multimedia and internet, using blended learning and foster life long individual learning on different subjects and for a large learning group. In the framework of the European GRUNDVIG-MEDIA contest exemplary Blended-Learning courses as well as educational media and didactical multimedia Products, which can be used in Blended Learning courses, were looked for, received a price and communicated in Europe. In the 2nd project year a concentration on the research on and communication of exemplary multimedia products as well as educational offers which could be used in the framework of blended learning in Euro-cultural Education was conducted with success.

The main activities for the dissemination of the project results were conferences on blended learning in each participating country. At these conferences exemplary multi media products and educational offers for blended learning in Euro-cultural adult education were presented, discussed and disseminated by a broad circle of multiplicators. Due to the participation of all project partners, the results achieved in the other countries were presented at these conferences and disseminated. The condensed results of the conferences were published in information to the press and in the internet. Project results
The project activities in the framework of the Comenius Contest 2005/ part GRUNDVIG-MEDIA-CONTEST in the category blended learning projects and Euro-cultural education produced a large number of multimedia products. They were documented, evaluated and partly awarded. In the framework of the project the access to the multimedia documentation by means of the databank “GRUNDVIG-MEDIA” was improved.

2 Euromedia awards 2005

The awards for multimedia products for blended learning and Euro-cultural education contributed in the participating countries to giving impulses for the use of these media in adult education and quality impulses for the development of new multimedia products. The documentation of the awards were made accessible by means of the internet in all participating countries. The laudations of the awards were published by way of the internet databank Grundvig-Media and in the professional periodical “L.A. Multimedia”.

In the framework of project conferences the teachers were made familiar with an assessment system for evaluating didactical multimedia products and learnt to evaluate multimedia products for Euro-cultural education.
In the framework of the project the formation of multimedia competence of the learners by teaching them how to evaluate multimedia was fostered.
In order to enable learners and teachers in adult education to choose didactically well conceived multimedia products for ethical education and to use them, a system for evaluation and assessment was used and made accessible as an interactive evaluation system for further education. (See annex: evaluation sheet). By means of an evaluation sheet learners and teachers can do their own evaluation and put them on the “Multimedia-Databank Grundvig-Media”.

At the centre of the evaluation and assessment system for didactical multimedia products are four evaluation groups:

  1. The evaluation of the pedagogical aspect and contents 
    for evaluation educational intents and chances 
  2. The evaluation of didactics and methods 
    for evaluation the structure and chances of learning 
  3. The medial evaluation
    for evaluation design and structure 
  4. The evaluation of usage 
    for evaluation the comfort of usage and handling

A number of criteria for evaluation and aspects for assessment were discussed in publications and partly – more or less to a large extent and often – also used in practice. In order to realize a practical procedure, concentration and prioritization are necessary. From the pedagogical standpoint the criteria catalogue and the assessment procedure offers a prioritization on the four evaluation groups, in order to secure comparable evaluations and to undertake equivalent prioritization. These four groups assure that in the process of necessary structuring the overview is not lost.

Each group of criteria has six quality criteria which comprise a variety of assessment aspects. The assessment aspects are given by way of questions or statements respectively in the context of quality criteria.

In the framework of assessment the starting point are the questions:
How is the assessment aspect conceived in the didactical multimedia product and how can it be realized by using it?



Target group


The profit of these results is directed at teachers in adult education and all those engaging in further education, individual life long learning with multimedia and internet. The project, however, also addresses senior persons and women who prefer individual learning with multimedia. During our research it was found out, amongst others, which target group undergoes the best experience with blended learning courses. In the framework of the project it became clear that blended learning projects gain increasing importance in further education. An increasing number of further education institutions on economical ground start to organize their further education offers in a way to combine phases of presence and phases of individual learning with multimedia. This way they basically all groups in adult education are profiting depending on the target group of the project and the multimedia product from this approach.

The project conveys to all those offering Euro-cultural adult education and blended learning courses (teachers) examples for their own educational practice. The conferences in the participating countries were offered as further education conferences for teachers in adult education. The cooperating partners of the participating countries prepared the conferences together with the respective project partners, realized them and contributed to the dissemination of the results.

The project results contribute to the exchange, offer and use of exemplary blended learning offers for Euro-cultural education in Europe for the teachers and learners from all countries participating. The project gathered practical experiences for the use of blended learning and supported the dissemination in adult education. Exemplary blended learning offers will be made accessible for the institutions. Moreover, the project makes a general contribution for the use of blended learning in adult education an Euro-cultural education. The project contributes to disseminate the good experiences with blended learning, multimedia and Euro-cultural education not only in one country but in all participating countries as well as in the whole of Europe by means of the internet. The contributions from the participating countries (see themes and papers of the project conferences will be summarized in an internet publication during the third project year and published). The exemplary multimedia products will be presented in project conferences where the suggestions will be discussed.

Project information on GRUNDVIG- Media

Information on the prized multimedia products will be given in vol. 3 and 4/2005 of “L.A. Multimedia”, professional periodical on education and media. “L.A. Multimedia” will be sent to all educational institutions in Germany. Information on the project will also be given in the internet under www.gpi-online.de. The pictures of the Comenius and Euromedia award events were published under www.gpi-online.de.
The databank Grundvig-Media containing the documentation of multimedia products on blended learning projects and multimedia products on Euro-cultural education was improved, extended and can be consulted in the internet.
